Dear 3 year old Emma,
Today is your 3rd birthday! Three years ago, almost to the minute, we welcomed you into the world. I was so overcome with love the minute I held you... and not much has changed. I hope and pray that one day you get to experience being a mother. It's unlike anything else I've ever experienced and being your mama has taught me so much. I want that experience for you, too.
You are the most dramatic, adventurous, naughty, funny, and loving girl. I love how your personality includes so many different traits. You can be such a rough little tom boy sometimes - you are a dare devil at the park, you love riding your bike, you like playing with Diego and cars, and you are brave. You can also be quite a naughty thing, too! You are my child who draws on the walls and carpet, overflows the bathroom sink, rips pages out of library books (shh! don't tell on us!), throws smoothies all over the car, and runs away from me in stores. At the same time, you are the most loving little girl. You've always been, and still are, a mama's girl. You love to be held and snuggled. You give the best hugs and say the sweetest things. You feel such remorse when you make bad choices and often are the one to tell me what you did wrong before I even find out! You love being read to and looking at books. You love your blankey and refuse to sleep without it. You love your dolls and and the color pink and doing puzzles. You are completely your own person even though you adore your Sissy.
Oh, sweet child, how I want you to someday grasp how deep and wide the Father's love for you is! I pray that you will understand His great sacrifice and respond with your life. You are such a unique child of God and I love that He made you just the way He wanted you to be...for His purposes and to bring glory to His name.
Thank you for helping your mama experience and understand grace more each day. Being your mama has reminded me again that without God's help, I am not capable of loving and parenting you. I'm so thankful He never leaves us. You remind me everyday of the simple joys in life and I pray for the patience to enjoy them with you more.
You are a joy, sweet girl.
I love you,
Mama

What a beautiful and precious tribute to little Emma! It has been such a fun three years watching her grow into who she is. She definitely is a complex little girl - all of these traits molded together to make one very special and unique child. I love and miss her soooo much! Can't wait to see her again in a few weeks!
