Kiddo Quotes

Life with kids is just so funny sometimes, no?

Here are a couple of my favorites as of late.

Claire was feeling nervous about her first show & tell at her new school.
Emma: Sissy, sometimes I feel nervous when I have to go on stage and then I do it and I feel SO MUCH BETTER!
(Love the attempt to relate, but how often have you really been on stage, Emmy?)

After school one morning, Emma and I were catching Claire up on what we did that morning.  When filling her in on how the playdate went, we told Claire that Emma was having trouble being nice to her friend.
Claire: Emma, you shouldn't do that.
Emma: But I missed you.
Claire:  Well you shouldn't do that when you miss someone.
Emma:  Well what should I do if I miss someone, Sissy?
Claire:  You should just say I miss someone.  Like I miss my sister or I miss my cousin or I miss my friend.

Kid Quotes

Some recent Emma originals....

When someone asks her if she thinks the baby is a boy or a girl, Emma always says, "God's gonna pick!"

E: Mommy, I'm not a white lady.
Me: You're not? Well what kind of lady are you?
E: A black lady

Out of the blue the other day, "If I was God, I would live in the sky and make things new."

And Claire has said some sweet things of her own lately...

When watching a movie with a 'bad guy' recently, Claire said, "Well he just doesn't know Jesus!"

I was talking about how the weather forecast for the day ended up being wrong and Claire said, "Well the weather people don't always know about the weather.  Only God does!"

Goodness, I just love being mama to these little loves.

Kid Quotes

There are so many small moments I want to remember.. these two stuck out in my mind and, if you know me well, you know I have the worst memory!  I figured I better blog these before I forget..  ;)

My little Emma Lou is NOT the chocolate lover that her mama is!  One of our new neighbors brought us these cake pops as a sweet 'welcome to the neighborhood' treat.  Claire and I ate ours up in no time.  Emma spit out the one bite she took and decided to focus on the 'sparkles' (read: sprinkles)

"Mama, I just eat the sparkles.  I not like the blackness."

While coloring a picture the other day, Claire was explaining to me how her teacher at school doesn't like when the students scribble.  She said if they color without scribbling, Mrs. Sherrin gives them a sticker.  She then started telling me about one of the kids in her class who does his best but still scribbles.  "Even though he scribbles, Mrs. Sherrin gives him grace and he gets a sticker anyway."  I couldn't believe my four year old is starting to understand the concept of grace!  What a sweet moment!

Kid Quotes

While looking at a picture of our old back yard in Iowa:

Claire: I feel like I want to move back to Iowa.
Me: Ooohh, but don't you like living in Georgia?
Claire: I do Mommy, but I just miss my friends in Iowa.

While playing in the playroom and telling me another elaborate story:

Claire: I love playing with my stepbrother.  His name is James.

While praying before dinner last night:

Emma: Dear God, Pray for Nora.  Go on the potty.  Obey Bridgey.  Not climb in baby Molly's crib.  Amen

While listening to a Casting Crowns song on the radio:

Claire:  Who is singing this song?  Is it Jesus?  It sounds like Jesus.

While driving home from our trip to Iowa:

Claire: I want to have 12 kids and live in an apartment in Milwaukee.  And Liam will be my husband.  I want to teach daycare.  And Liam will teach swimming lessons.

While driving in the car one afternoon:

Claire: Mommy, I just love school. And leotards.

Quotable

Here are a few cute things the girls have said lately.  :)

Me: Claire, what do you want for your birthday?
Claire: A flower dress
Me: Oh, like a dress that has flowers on it?
Claire:  No, I mean a fancy dress so I can be a flower girl in someone's wedding.

Yesterday Emma was with me when I went to the post office to mail a present to my BFF's new baby.  As we were walking in, I said: Emma, do you know who this present is for?
Emma: For Nora's new baby.
Me: Yes! It's for Nora's new baby sister.  Do you know what her name is?
After several seconds and much thought,  Emma says: Obama!

Out of the blue the other day while driving in the car, Claire says: Do you know who the governor of Georgia is?
Me: (I've only lived her for a few months so I had no idea) Umm, no honey, I don't know.
Claire: It's Nathan Deal!
(I googled it and she was right! I guess she's learning something in preschool!)

Claire Quotes

Claire has been making me laugh these days!  She has exchanged bringing a baby everywhere she goes and instead she brings a purse and cell phone.  She is constantly making calls, texting, taking pictures, etc...  She starts ballet on Tuesday and preschool in August.  She is growing up way too fast!

The other day we were going to Target and, as usual, Emma had her baby doll in tow. Suddenly I realized Claire no longer brings a baby with her everywhere we go (like she used to).  It made me so sad.  I said, "Claire!  You don't bring babies with when we go places anymore like you used to."  She said, "Mom, I'm not a baby anymore."  I said, "I know, but little girls still like to play with babies."  She responded, "Mom, I'm not little.  I'm 14!"

Today she said to me, "Mom, when I'm talking does it sound like I'm 14?"

Later we were talking about how Daddy is going to be gone for work and she asked me where he was going to sleep.  I told her he would sleep in a hotel and then asked if she remembered when we stayed in a hotel one time.  She answered, "Oh yeah!  That was a lovely hotel!"

Claire Quote

Emma was being rather crabby with Claire this morning.  I overheard Claire say to her, "Emma, we are going to have to start disciplining you if you yell at me like that."  Thanks for the help, C-Bear.

Some funny ones

Just overheard Claire singing her latest made-up song:

I love God because he bes the best. He is the best. He is the beeeeest.

Some other recent favorites:

Emma calls all princess dresses 'beauty'. I think she heard Claire say she wanted to wear her Sleeping Beauty dress one time and now whenever she wants to wear one of the dresses, she points to her tummy and says, 'beauty'. Super cute!

Emma's answer to any 'where' question (where is your blankey? Where do you live? Where is your sissy?) is always Iowa.

Claire has been very vocal about her love recently. I was gone on a girls' trip last weekend and got to Skype with the girls one morning. Claire said, "Mom, I miss you. Do you miss me?" and frequently tells me she loves me. This is perfect for this words of affirmation mama! ;)

Emma thinks the way to say excuse me is 'beep'. When you are in her way or a toy is in her way, she says beep. Even if I tell her to say excuse me, she says, 'beeeeep'.

Claire's current list of imaginary friends that come into play every day are Lish, Bea, Leo, and Huntrainea. Seriously, that last one is Hun-train-e-a. Don't ask. I have no answer.

Emma's current favorite song is Mary Had a Little Lamb. She is always asking me to sing it. She says 'Mary' and points to my lips to ask me to sing it.

Happy Half Bday!

Today is this girl's half birthday.. she is 18 months old already!  It is so hard to believe.  Emma gets more fun and hilarious every day.. seriously.  I wish I could express how much she LOVES Claire and picks up on everything she does.  This child does not miss a beat.  Just as a small example, the other day Claire got a small 'owie' on her leg and was pulling up her leggings to look at it.  Several hours later, we were in the car driving somewhere and Emma is pulling up her pant legs, saying 'owie', and pointing to Claire!

Her vocabulary grows more everyday and she says lots of words!  She doesn't sign anymore and instead can verbally say all of the words she used to sign.  I was reading my post from when Claire turned 18 months old and after seeing that I made a list of her words, I tried to do the same with Emma.  She has around 45-50 words.

She LOVES to pray and frequently in the middle of dinner will grab everyone's hands and say, 'pray'.  She loves babies and animals.  Most of her play time is spent with her babies, just like someone else I know.  ;)  She also has some serious 'moves.'  She watches Claire do gymnastics and when we say, "Emma, do your move,"  she puts her hands on the ground and lifts one of her legs in the air.  It is so funny!  I need to get that one on video.  She also has recently come up with a little tune she likes to sing.  She will walk around the house all morning singing, "Yat da da di da."  Again, I need to capture this on video.. it is super cute!

She loves ALL food and eats everything, often eating more than Claire does.  Emma has a waffle for breakfast every morning and recently is not satisfied until she has eaten 3!  She also loves to look at books and recently has learned who Elmo is.

She still goes to bed around 6:30 pm and sleeps until 6:30 or 7:00 am.  She naps around 12:30 every day and sleeps for about 1 1/2-2 hours.

We have her 18 month appointment next week (sad... might be our last one with our favorite pediatrician!!) and I am excited to see how she is doing.

So thankful for the joy Emma Annette has brought to our home over the last 18 months!   The other day Claire said to me, "Mom, my heart feels like I love my baby sister so much.  I am so happy I am a big sister."  Girl, I couldn't have said it better myself.  My heart feels the same way about both of my girls!

Another one.. and 3 year stats

Last night I was helping Claire put her jammies on for bed and I said, "Claire, I just love you so much."  She kissed me on the cheek and replied, "Thanks for loving me, Mom."  melted.my.heart.

In other news, we had her 3 year appointment today.  It was really very uneventful and easy.  No shots, no finger pricks, no major concerns.  She is in the 95% for both height (39 1/2 in) and weight (41.4 lbs).  (One of her first appointments ever when she hasn't been off the charts... although we're close at the 95%!)

The main thing we discussed was Claire's dairy allergy.  Dr. Shaw recommended re-introducing dairy every six months or so to see if we notice any improvement.  She said most kids outgrow dairy allergies but that they have usually outgrown it by age 3.  So, we'll see what happens with Claire!

Claire Quote

The other day before putting Claire to bed, we were all playing doctor.  Justin was the doctor, I was the nurse, and Claire was the mommy bringing her baby to the doctor.  After playing for awhile it was bedtime.  Justin put Claire to bed and as he was leaving, Claire said, "Goodnight!  Are you going to go sleep with the nurse now?"
