Emma had her 18 month appointment today. She had to get 3 shots (boo!) but Claire talked her through it on the way to the doctor. "Emma, you have to get 3 shots today. Dr. Shaw will listen to your heart and look in your ears and then Leann is going to come in and give you the shots. Then she will give you a sticker when you are done!"
Emma weighed 27 lbs (80%) and was 33 inches long (85%). Not quite as big as Claire was at this age but we still got the recommendation to switch from whole to skim milk. Lets face it: my kids just don't need those extra calories! :)
At the end of the appointment, Dr. Shaw's nurse asked if we would be back again before we moved. I said I wasn't sure so she said she would say goodbye now just in case. She gave us all hugs and told Claire, "you are my favorite patient!". I got all teary-eyed. Seriously, how will we ever find a doctor/nurse combo like them that we can possibly love so much?! They are just the best!! *sigh*

Interesting...Maura measured about the same at her 18-month appointment, but when I told doctor we'd gone from whole milk to 2%, I was told to switch back to whole RIGHT AWAY!
Kids definitely need fat in their diet. Keep the whole milk or at least 2%. If weight was actually a problem (it's not) the solution would be less sugar and processed foods, not eliminating fat. Fat is good for you! Justin knows this stuff! :-)
We still have Lauren on 2% and she was about the same for weight and height. I think that they need the extra fat at this age but not necessarily the whole milk at these percentiles. We recommend changing to skim at age 2 for most of our patients, they need some of the fat for brain/neurological growth. I think it all depends on the child :)
Glad to hear she's doing so well! Can't wait to get these girls together again soon :)
