To find out or not to find out

So, I'm 16 weeks pregnant now and just a few weeks away from THE ultrasound.  You know the one where they can tell you the gender??  THAT one.  Since this is likely our last baby (at least last baby coming from this uterus), we are considering not finding out.  With both girls we found out (I was a freak about wanting to prepare and despised the idea of 'gender neutral stuff'  i.e. green and yellow clothing. I couldn't imagine dressing a baby girl in green and yellow.  Lame, I know.  #firstworldproblem)

Anyway, up until this point, I've been pretty solid in our decision to go for the surprise.  I have thought I might regret it if I never get to experience that moment of true anticipation in the delivery room when they say, 'IT'S A... (girl, most likely in our case)!!'  But yesterday I had a minor major freak out.  I realized we literally have ONE baby boy outfit.  And, as previously stated, zero gender neutral outfits.  WHAT IF WE ACTUALLY HAD A BOY??  You can't even make it through a few hours in one outfit with a newborn, let alone an entire day.  And then I started thinking about prepping for the baby.  Do I wash and hang the girl clothes in the closet?  Do I buy boy clothes?  Do I put the girl bedding on the crib?  Or the boy bedding? (I did buy a used crib bedding set from a friend so I at least have that.)  Do I just get NOTHING ready and then come home with a possibly naked newborn with zero clothes in the closet and no bedding on the crib?  How do people actually do this and feel somewhat prepared?

My other major stress is names.  I can't imagine having to go to the hospital with two names we absolutely love ready for whichever gender we have.  YIKES.  All this to say, I still kinda want to experience the surprise.  So, talk me into or out of it, friends.  What should we do?  And if we don't find out, how should we prepare?  HELP!

You should definitely find out! Preparing for a baby and washing newborn clothes in Dreft is so, so fun while you are nesting! There are other surprises like when the baby will arrive, what they will look like, etc. find out!

If you don't find out, and you do have a boy, he won't go naked. You can bring him home from the hospital in your one boy out fit and so what if he wears a couple girl sleepers before you go out an buy him some clothes. Ella wore plenty of boy sleepers, but I know that is different than a boy in pink. But hey, there's another first world problem for you :-)
I will say, when the doctor told us Micah was a boy we were so surprised and that was fun. That being said, I hope you do find out ahead so I can know now! :-)
I sent the rest of my boy clothes to Roxy though, so if you want them, you'll have to get them when she is done with them. :-)

Well, Lindsey made good points, but I have to say there are very few experiences I treasure and remember as well as hearing "it's a....!", particularly our complete surprise at having a girl after two boys. Nothing compares. Stock up on some onesies in white (that's all they wear for a week anyway). Then you and grandma and girls can escape for a fun shopping trip for gender appropriate stuff. Or, there's always Amazon! :) I would go for the surprise.

We found out with Eva, but didn't with Daniel. We loved the surprise. If you dont find out and it's a boy, I will overnight you all of Daniel's newborn/0-3 month stuff so it's there when you come home from the hospital. The surprise is so worth it. I love to be prepared but I'm so glad I didn't find out this last time.

And if you would like some extra boy stuff laying around to get you through the first 48 hours, I will send you some beforehand:)

Whatever you decide will work out...if it is a boy he can sleep in a pink crib for a while and wear onesies, he is going to emit all sorts of nasty fluids on them anyway :) so your one outfit will suffice. I'll mail you some newborn stuff our baby has outgrown the day you deliever too :)Jorie can bring you some boy stuff if needed too and if you don't need it no worries. I wanna know but that is bc I CANNOT wait for anything but you all do whatever is best for you!!!

You already know what I'm going to say... but for me, the surprise was my big reward along with that baby! I am all about the motivation and I love surprises! The "It's a ...." is awesome. I loved having 2 names in mind on the way and not knowing which we'd end up with!
I've never found out but I just had a tub of both clothes ready. I still have a pink bin of unused brand new girl clothes. Sigh....

I guess you'll just need to wait and see how you feel that day! :)
