Today was Claire's big 2 year appointment. Although lately she has been more fearful (I took her to the dermatologist a couple weeks ago and she totally FREAKED out!!), she was happy to see Dr. Shaw. She always walks right over to her and sits on her lap. It cracks me up!
Anyway, she weighed in at 34 lbs and was 36 3/4 inches. Again, off the charts in both height and weight. Even though Claire continues to be such a big girl, Dr. Shaw said her BMI is perfect so we don't need to worry about it... we just make big kids I guess!! :)
We talked about the paci situation (Claire still takes one at naptime and bedtime) and Dr. Shaw said that now would be a good time to give it up. Although it makes me a little sad, since that's one of the last bits of 'baby' left in Claire, I think next week we're going to have a visit from the Paci Fairy and give those up for good!
In other news, I think this girl might be ready to say good bye to diapers... especially after the day we had yesterday. She woke up yesterday morning and took all of her clothes off - including her diaper! Then she peep on her bed. Then when I went to get her up from her nap, her hands were covered in POOP!!! Her clothes and diaper were still on, so she must have stuck her hands down there!! Thankfully she only got a little on her pants and on her pillow and we cleaned it up with no problem. TOTALLY NASTY THOUGH!!! We have not pushed the idea of going on the potty on her at all because I don't want to start potty training until she's ready. But, she has been super interested lately. She has asked to go potty on the big potty every single day over the last week or so. She peed the other day when she was on there. We made a big deal about it and made lots of phone calls, telling everyone she went pee pee on the potty! Then today after lunch Claire said she needed to go poop on the potty. I thought maybe she was just trying to put off her naptime, but guess what?! She actually went poop on the potty!!! So, I'm thinking maybe it's time to just go for it. Any tips you seasoned parents out there have before we start would be much appreciated!! :)
At two years old, Claire's number one love is still her babies. She is such a good little mama and loves feeding, rocking, and comforting her babies. It's precious to watch. She is such a tender-hearted little girl. She also loves making Emma smile and laugh. She gets close to her and talks to her and always proudly tells me what Emma 'says.' "Mommy, Emma said gooo!!" Claire also loves playing with her new kitchen. She likes to 'make' pizza and macaroni. She's a great eater and eats pretty much everything. I'm so thankful that we don't have to fight her to eat!
For the first time in Claire's life, she has recently been going through some separation anxiety. She cried when leaving her at the church nursery for the first time ever a few weeks ago. She has also become more shy around people she doesn't know, especially men. I talked to Dr. Shaw about this and she said that lots of kids go through toddler separation anxiety. Hopefully she'll grow out of it soon!
You can definitely tell that this girl is TWO! We are learning how to discipline her and unfortunately, sometimes it seems like that's ALL we do!! She definitely has a mind of her own and a strong little will!
Her vocabulary is amazing and I love hearing what she comes up with! She's been speaking in sentences for a few months now and we can actually carry on a conversation together now.
She still goes to bed around 7 pm and sleeps until 7 or 7:30 am. She takes one afternoon nap, ranging from 1 1/2 - 3 hours.
Well... I think that sums up Claire's life at TWO!! She's such a fun, loving, crazy girl and I am thankful beyond words to have the privilege of being her mama!

It sounds to me like she is ready for the big girl potty for sure! My advice is just go for it. We talked it about for about a month, put in on the calendar, and on "the day!" we packed up all his diapers to send to a new baby, put Logan in undies and that was that. It was two weeks of plenty of accidents, then exactly two weeks from the day we started he was totally potty trained. He was a little older than Claire is now, but not much. This really seemed to work for us, especially if you don't have to worry about full-time daycare. Good luck!
Good - I am glad it isn't just me that feels like all I do is discipline my 2 year old. How much longer does this last?? Oh - and btw - Henry only weighs 25 pounds...we on the other hand have to try and fight ours to eat. Such a little peanut. So fun to compare our two little munchkins!!
Hurray for Claire! My advice on potty training is, stick with just underwear, rather than pullups. It makes the process much faster I think! You will have to wash yucky underwear for awhile, but I wish I would have not donw pull ups at all.
There is my two cents. I hope it works out for you! :)
