Justin-isms

After reading this entry on my brother-in-law Mark's blog, I was inspired to add some funny quotes of my own to my blog. Unfortunately my daughter is a long way from talking, so these quotes come from my husband, the other child in the house. :)

Justin has a habit of talking in his sleep. (and don't worry... I made sure it was okay with him to post this!) Since Claire has been born, the occurrence of these episodes has increased. I keep thinking that I need to write these down when he says them. There are so many that I can't remember, but here are a couple that stand out.

One night, I had just gotten back into bed after feeding Claire when she started to cry. I knew she probably just needed her pacifier, so I asked Justin if he could go in and soothe her. He said he would and sat up on the side of the bed. He just kept sitting there and so I said, "Justin, can you please go in there?" He started messing with something, but since it was dark, I couldn't tell what he was doing. After another minute or so, I started to get frustrated that he wasn't going in her room so I again said, "PLEASE go in there." He said, "I'm trying." Obviously he wasn't trying and I was getting mad. I asked him again to go in there and then he started getting frustrated, telling me again that he was trying. I finally gave up and just went in there myself. When I came back to bed, Justin was asleep. The next morning I asked him what the deal was and why he wouldn't go in Claire's room. He started to laugh and explained to me that after I left to go into Claire's room, he woke up and realized that he had grabbed a pair of jeans out of the hamper and, thinking Claire was in his lap, proceeded to try to swaddle her by carefully folding up his jeans. I guess that's what he meant by "I'm trying."

Before I tell this next story you need to know that a cannula is that plastic tube that wraps around Claire's face to provide her oxygen. Last night I returned to bed after feeding Claire and Justin started talking but I couldn't understand anything he was saying. The only word I could make out was 'cannula.' Knowing how he is in the middle of the night, I figured he was talking in his sleep, but I didn't know for sure, so I said, "Cannula?" His response was, "No, spicy cannula." I knew he was asleep because I started cracking up and he didn't say a thing. :)

Justin and I were talking this afternoon about how we need to start some Christmas traditions of our own now that we have our own family. I suggested that we should sit down as a family on Christmas Eve and read the Christmas story, to which Justin replied, "Do we have that book?" (Oh.. and he was wide awake when he said that!)

Oh my gosh Annie! I almost peed in my pants (not too hard right now being 7 months pregnant) after reading the first story about Justin. I could just hear you asking him to get up and getting frustrated! Love it!
